Almost
a decade ago, Al Kirchner and Alan Fisher set off on a world
search, determined to discover the best environment for producing
naturally low sodium salt. Their
exploration led to a small village in Latin America that possessed the ideal
climate and the necessary infrastructure for processing. While Al Kirchner worked
on developing the technical aspects, Alan Fisher put his ideas on the market,
overcoming obstacles and never losing sight of the goal.
After securing their
packaging partner, Tekpak, in late 2005, Ocean's Flavor
participated in a large Food Exhibit in Las Vegas, an unorganized
attempt
that
was at least worth a gamble. With very limited funds, a provided table far
from the majority of foot traffic and limited marketing materials,
Ocean's Flavor
unveiled its brand to the public. From the opening moment until the exhibition
closed 4 days later, the small booth was full of prospects and stakeholders.
What was planned as a working vacation became offered no signs of the latter.
They came to Las Vegas without great expectations and left with one foot
in the market and a winning record in Vegas.
